The summer of blockbuster music festivals rolls on… this time in sunny LA.
The 11th annual FYF Fest will be held Aug. 23-24 at LA Sports Arena and Exposition Park.
Topping the bill Saturday, Aug. 23 will be Phoenix, while the Strokes headlines events on Sunday.
Hot bands like Haim, Interpol, Earl Sweatshirt and Joanna Gruesome are all in the mix. The Blood Brothers will even be reuniting for their first show in eight years.
You may have thought the Presidents of the United States had retired for good, but they’re back for another term. Their new album, Kudos to You!, was released in February, on funds raised by fans through PledgeMusic. Will they produce another hit like “Lump” or “Peaches”? Time will tell.
You’ll also notice that Julian Casablancas is one of the major headliners on Saturday, while the Strokes, founded by Casablancas, will play Sunday.
The Strokes produced the album “Comedown Machine” as recently as the end of last year, but on March 6, Casablancas released a video on his website teasing his new band The Voidz. That album, “Julian Casablancas + The Voidz,” is set to be released through Cult Records, also founded by Casablancas. The plot thickens.
The eight-minute video includes interviews, some studio jumblings and slowed-down footage of a horse race. In the video, Casablancas says it’s “kind of a protest record.” Here’s hoping the next video he releases contains actual music. You can view it at juliancasablancas.com.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 22 at noon Pacific. Visit http://www.fyffest.com for more.
