Kanye’s “Yeezus” is reborn as “Kreezus” — It’s a Christmas miracle

kanye west kreezus

Kanye’s aware he’s the king, and now the ultimate compliment has been bestowed upon him: Becoming a Christmas parody.

Kanye West’s “Yeezus” is now “Kreezus.” The group “Local Business Comedy” are the naughty elves behind this early Christmas gift.

The song “Black Skinhead” is now “Red Hat Head” and it’s on Youtube. The group manages to keep the song super badass while it airs Santa’s grievances about working third shift on Christmas Eve. A couple of choice lines: “Claiming I’m over regifting/ to the bad kids on my bad list”; “C’mon Rudolph, eat your corn/sooner or later you’re airborne”; “24 hours, all on shift, 24 Blu Ray — a hot gift.”

And guess what? “Kreezus” is still “explicit.”

Other songs include “Milk Trip,” “Hold My Eggnog” and “I am a Claus.”

You can stream the rest of “Kreezus” on Soundcloud, so get over there. It’s also on Youtube right now, but don’t expect that to last too long.

Watch New Hands’ GIF-generated video “Strange Attractor”

Just a little bit of techno-geek: GIFs are bitmap pictures of just 256 colors usually reserved for low-res film clips. That turns out to be the perfect formula for what synth band New Hands’ wanted for their latest video.

The electronic group has put out a GIF-based generative video for their new-wave song “Strange Attractor,” taking people’s random vintage home videos from Youtube and mashing them up in strange ways.

The idea seems bred from the vein of John Cougar Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane” video;

jack and diane image

But for “Strange Attractor,” New Hands has curated more than 900 images — of young children, a guy trying to stuff something in a car trunk, skateboarders, dancers over the decades, Las Vegas, a man with a mask, car crashes, karate events, — usually catching people at their most awkward-looking.

These mundane images are familiar, wonderful and mysterious at the same time. The clashes of culture are oddly at home together on “Strange Attractor.”

Every time you click on New Hands’ video generator for “Strange Attractor,”, it regenerates the order of 329 of these images, for a unique experience every time. You could also just watch the YouTube version, which is slightly easier.

Sometimes the beat of “Strange Attractor” feeds off one of the images, but most of the time the awkward pictures are unsettling but extremely interesting to watch. You can never really latch on to one picture because in a few seconds, any attachment you might have to that is replaced with something different and new.

Drummer Gord Bond explained why the GIF format appealed to him:

““It was the GIF format that intrigued me. Technically it is a picture file, but it allows for animation. To me this was an interesting dualism. On the one hand it’s a video and on the other a still image. By using the GIF files we compiled as the frames for the video we are bringing attention to the structural element of video – the individual frame, which when stitched together create movement. This idea of stillness vs movement is also repeated in the thematic element of the video. The GIFs all contain some form of movement. Movement is critical to the song itself, it is constantly in motion.””

If you’re not into any of that, you can still just listen to the song at Soundcloud.

The song was mixed by Graham Walsh of Holy Fuck.  New Hands’ debut full-length album is due next year.

Much smaller than ‘Half A Person’ but so much more: Mini-Morrissey dolls

Such a sweet and tender hooligan, that Morrissey. Now you can at least dream about holding him in the palm of your hand.

Kate Park is a British knitter who has created a fair number of mini-Morrissey dolls, in various stages of dress and undress, glorious pompadour solidly in place. It’s caused a sensation online; so much so that Park has been bombarded with requests.

Sadly, there’s none to be had: On her site she says there are no dolls available right now: “Due to more enquiries than I can handle, my email is on auto reply until further notice.”

Stretch out and wait, or go to ebay.

Moznoshirt

Park’s rules for creating these furry gems are simple: She makes clear it’s just a hobby for her and adds, “I make dolls only when it pleases me and never to order.”

So If we want Park to knit us a Morrissey-type vicar in a tutu, with a thorn poking out of his side, hand in glove, getting hit by a 10-ton truck, then we’re out of luck.

Moz mesh shirt
But what we are left with are the images, and there are plenty.
The scenes are priceless: Morrissey, with his trademark ‘do, slightly grayed, holding a bouquet of roses, chest bared; one where he looks slightly irked, chest bared (a common theme); our favorite is the one where he’s proudly displaying tiny little pink nippies.
There’s Santa Moz, bathrobe Moz, modeling Moz and what looks like a very modest Moz with a garland of gladioli or some other flower delicately draped over his … you know.

At the site allyouneedismorrissey.com, there’s plenty more specs on these tiny dolls.
It took us a second, reading some of these email threads from excited recipients: — but “KM” stands for “Knitted Moz” if you must know.

Mozredshirt

The description on the dolls includes such juicy details as: “he has pink bead nipples….his quiff is nylon doll hair….. with black suedette boots.”
The materials would appear to be to Morrissey’s liking: email threads say the clothing is made from reclaimed fabrics. But keep Moz away from children and pets — he has small parts.

Listen to Night Beds’ “Me, Liquor and God”

Night Beds has released

Night Beds has released “Me, Liquor and God”

On Tuesday, Nashville’s Night Beds released a new track, and it’s worlds away from what you know of the acoustic centric outfit. After almost a year, Night Beds’ Winston Yellen returns with “Me, Liquor and God.” To start with, it’s an intently personal song title, with undulating synth melodies and a “descent into debauchery,” according to a press release.

“I’ve always been enough for your shelf,” Yellen sings. Night Beds worked over the last three years on new music with Winston’s brother Abe Yellen and several more musicians. Yellen’s feminine, emotional voice takes control in “Me, Liquor and God,” which shares a bit of contemporary-pop sensibilities; Night Beds’ honesty is still intact. Yellen’s new sound was first displayed on Tomas Barfod’s “Sell You,” released earlier this year. Listen here.
